Brazilian Butt Lift Aftercare & Safety for Travel

A Brazilian Butt Lift is more than just the surgery itself – it’s how you care for your body in the weeks leading up to the procedure, and the months following surgery that contribute to the outcome. As an invasive procedure, BBLs come with safety regulations and recommendations. The right provider will help you before, during, and after your surgery to ensure that you have the best possible experience.

With that in mind, many people wonder about sitting after BBL myths and truths. It’s one of the most commonly asked questions, and for good reason.

Sitting Before BBL

Did you know that there are also best practices for sitting before BBL surgery? It’s true!

At Advanced Body Sculpting, we often see patients from many locations, not just the Fall River area. If you are considering traveling to a reputable provider for your BBL, we recommend planning extra time for your trip. This is because you’ll be spending more time sitting during travel, whether you’re flying or driving.

Reducing the Risk of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE)

VTE occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein. This also includes conditions that more people commonly know of, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). DVT is another blood clot formation, typically in the lower leg, thigh, or pelvis.

When you sit for long periods, you are at a higher likelihood of developing a blood clot. That’s why we recommend building a couple of extra days into your schedule before surgery if you are coming from far away. This gives time to walk around and be more active in preparation for the procedure.

Sitting After BBL

The same concept of not sitting for too long before your surgery to avoid blood clots applies after. You should schedule additional time after BBL before hopping on a plane or in the car where you have no choice but to sit still.

It’s smart to take these precautions on both sides of surgery. If you are flying, make an effort to walk around the airport regularly as you wait for your flight. If you are driving, make frequent stops to break up the time between sitting.

BBL Travel Tips

Remain in town for a few days after your surgery, not only to let your body heal but also in case you need access to your surgeon for any reason.

When you do get home, plan to have a support system in place. Not only with friends or family to help make recovery as comfortable as possible but also with local surgeons. Find a board-certified surgeon that you can trust to address any concerns you may have as you heal.

P.S. Don’t forget to hydrate as much as you can!

Protecting the Fat Graft Post-BBL Surgery

The biggest risk to the surgical area when traveling after a Brazilian Butt Lift is ruining the fat graft. With a BBL, your surgeon is taking fat cells from one area of the body and strategically placing them in another part of the body.

To make this process a success, these fat cells need a steady blood supply. When they are first put into their new site, the cells are more freely floating around to get their nutrients and oxygen, and to release waste products.

This means they are not using circulation yet, and are susceptible to exterior pressure. At least until they attach to the local blood supply. If you sit for hours soon after surgery, these cells are at risk of being destroyed, undoing your future results.

Reducing the Risk of Surgical Infection

Along with helping to avoid the disruption of these fragile fat cells, being careful with how you sit before and after BBL helps prevent surgical infection. When these cells are alive, they are better able to help the body’s immune response, fighting infection. But if you sit for too long and kill the cells, they are more likely to become infected.

How Long After a BBL Can You Sit Without a Pillow?

It’s generally best to give it at least a minimum of three weeks with pillow support. Anywhere from three up to eight weeks helps provide stability before sitting directly on the buttocks. The same concept applies to laying down – you should avoid laying right on your back for enough time to let the fat cells settle.

If you are sitting, be sure to get up and walk around for 5-10 minutes every hour. After around a month, your fat will be more stable than it was. There are always going to be stories of people who sat after their surgery without taking the right precautions and claim they were still able to achieve successful results. But, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. You’re putting a lot of time, effort, and money into this process, after all.
