COSMETIC SURGERY GROWS IN POPULARITY

Cosmetic surgery is becoming the new norm. With nearly two million plastic surgery procedures performed every year in the United States, men and women are taking advantage of modern medicine. Over the last 10 years, the total number of cosmetic surgeries has increased by ninety-eight percent…and it’s not only women who are driving these numbers. About 150,000 men and a quarter of the total number being minorities are having plastic surgery. There are various procedures designed to give a facelift to all parts of the body, but the five below are the most popular cosmetic surgeries:

LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that can be great for patients who cannot seem to rid themselves of fat in specific areas of the body. There are two types of liposuction: Tumescent and Ultrasonic-Assisted Liposuction.

Tumescent liposuction is the most popular. A solution of saline, a drug to narrow the blood vessels, and a numbing agent are filled into the treatment area. The liquid and the fat are suctioned out of the body using a small metal instrument. Ultrasonic-Assisted Liposuction uses the same instrument to release energy to melt the fat so it can be suctioned out of the body. This procedure has more risks than the other option, including the potential for internal/external burns and a longer surgery.

BREAST AUGMENTATION

Cosmetic surgeries on women’s breasts, known as breast augmentation or breast implants, have become vastly popular. More than 350,000 procedures are done every year in the states. Women have augmentations done for various reasons. Many hope to enlarge both breasts, but others hope to replace an absent one or make them equal in size. Some women choose to have breast augmentation because they did not develop during puberty, due to a condition called congenital macromastia.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF IMPLANTS: SILICONE AND SALINE.

Women report silicone implants feel more natural. The recovery time for this cosmetic surgery can range between one to two weeks. It may take longer to resume high-impact activities.

BLEPHAROPLASTY

Many cosmetic surgery patients struggle with vision. Blepharoplasty is eyelid reshaping surgery and can be done for cosmetic or vision reasons. Often, too much skin or sagging skin can cause a person’s vision to lack…which contributes to the appearance of aging. To gain a more youthful look, puffy lower eyelids or wrinkling can be reduced during cosmetic surgery. The appearance of “bags” are removed as necessary in the lower lid procedure. Most patients recover in about 10 days, and swelling becomes less noticeable in the weeks and months post-surgery.

ABDOMINOPLASTY

A tummy tuck cosmetic procedure is widely popular among women. Abdominoplasty gets rid of excess skin from the stomach area, leaving the skin feeling firm. Excess skin is often leftover after pregnancies or significant weight loss after bariatric surgery. The best candidate for this surgery is one who does not have a lot of fat deposits in the abdomen to remove, but too much skin hanging from the area. Most patients report the recovery time is two to three weeks, but many have to limit their physical activity for longer.

BREAST REDUCTION

Breast reduction surgery can benefit women in several ways. This procedure is one of the few plastic surgeries that insurance does pay for routinely. Women who suffer from heavy or substantial-sized breasts can have a hard time finding clothes that fit or experience chronic pain and bad posture. The surgery can benefit far beyond an improved appearance. Cosmetic surgery is a permanent fix to have asymmetrical breasts. The recovery time is usually around two weeks.

CELEBRITIES’ BOOB JOB | THREE A-LISTERS WITH BREAST IMPLANTS

Cosmetic surgery has long been a staple for the Hollywood elite who have to work against the effects of time and genetics to create and maintain their red-carpet looks. Breast implants, commonly known as boob jobs are popular options for many A-listers. Not every celebrity that has gone under the knife will openly admit it, and if their augmentation is performed by a skilled cosmetic surgeon who delivers attractive enhancements while maintaining natural curves and realistic-looking results, those celebrities will never have to. Nevertheless, some celebrities are proud of their breast augmentation and will freely admit that they have gotten a boob job.

HERE ARE THREE OF THE MOST POPULAR CELEBRITIES THAT FREELY ADMIT TO ENHANCING THEIR APPEARANCE WITH BREAST IMPLANTS.

PAMELA ANDERSON’S BOOB JOB

Perhaps no other celebrity has been a better ambassador for boob jobs than Pamela Anderson. Known for her large chest, the Baywatch star has been honest about her breast augmentation, even joking about them. She is quoted as saying, “People always tell me, ‘Reinvent yourself, re-this, re-whatever.’ I haven’t reinvented myself. It’s an honest evolution. I’ve always been authentic. Except for the boobs.” Like many celebrities who went for D’s, only to downsize later on down the road, Pamela opted for a one-cup size smaller in 1999.

JENNY MCCARTHY’S BOOB JOB

Playboy Model, Jenny McCarthy received her first boob job when she was 19 years old, opting for a 38 D. She, later on, opted to size down her implants. She unabashedly explained to Fox News “Women have to get their ‘tires rotated,’ so to speak, every ten years, so I never had them fully removed, but I had them taken out and replaced only because I couldn’t fit into normal dress sizes.” With a more natural enhancement, Jenny McCarthy still looks as beautiful as ever, and now “I feel better in my clothes,” she reports.

KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN’S BOOB JOB

Kourtney Kardashian is a great example of a celebrity who received a subtle, but beautiful enhancement, going up just one-cup size from a B to a C when she was 19. Her boob job caused quite a bit of gossip in Hollywood. Which Kourtney found entertaining, seeing she never sought to hide the fact that she received breast augmentation. She told Nightline in 2010, “I have had breast implants. But it’s not a secret, I could care less.”

Her sister, Khloe Kardashian has been a fan of Kourtney’s enhancement explanation. “I’ve always wanted, like, cleavage in a sports bra. Like, I love those girls at the gym that just got big ol’ boobs and I never really have that…So I don’t feel like it hurts to go get a consultation to see what my options are and to see how serious I am about this whole boob job thing.”
